Anchoring Netherton’s Future - It's Coming Home!

The date is now set for the filming of the Channel 4 documentary on the return of a full size replica of the Titanic anchor to Netherton. The anchor will return on Sunday 15th August towed by 20 shire horses, just as it left Hingley’s yard 99 years ago.

A series of events and displays are scheduled for the day of filming in and around Netherton including a funfair, exhibitions relating to the manufacturing industry of the Black Country during those times, street entertainment including music, theatre and dance. Official commemorative merchandise celebrating the day will also be on sale in order to raise funds towards a permanent home in Netherton for the anchor. The entertainment will begin in Netherton at midday with the anchor leaving the site of Dudley old station on its return home around 1pm with a planned arrival time in Netherton of between 2 and 2.30pm.

The programme will be shown on TV in the autumn and it is hoped that a final resting place for the anchor will be ready in time for the 100th anniversary in May next year. This will require a lot of work and people are asked to show their support for this by coming along on the day.

Anyone wanting to have more involvement on the day or in the campaign to ensure the anchor returns to its rightful home permanently is asked to get in touch with Chris Woods at the Savoy Centre.

Further details about the return of the anchor can be found on the Dudley MBC website and on Facebook.
