Savoy Centre Scoops Awards

The Savoy Centre has recently been recognised for its work in regeneration and community development. The centre recently finished runners up in the National Housing Federations Midlands Regional “What we are Proud of Awards”

This new category has been added to the annual Neighbourhood Awards, which gives Board Members and Residents the chance to nominate an outstanding housing association-run project, which has improved the lives of people in their local community over the last two years.

The competition showcases the schemes and initiatives of which organisations are most proud.

Following on from this, staff members from both Black Country Housing and Dudley MBC involved with the project along with representatives from the Netherton Regeneration Strategic Group were invited to the Hilton hotel in London to take part as finalists in the UK Housing Associations awards. The Savoy was nominated for the category “Empowering and involving communities”

Guest speaker Monty Don praised the work of all the organisations nominated for these awards and gave an interesting insight to his work with young drug addicts in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Marches.

After the awards the group was invited to visit the House's of Parliament as guests of local MP Ian Pearson. The group were given a brief tour of parts of the Commons and the Lords and were able to take tea in the Pugin room in the House of Lords

Savoy Centre Manager Chris Woods said, “all of those associated with the Savoy Centre are proud to do so well in an awards category such as this, particularly in the light of the fact that the centre has only been open just over two years. It's a great compliment to all the staff and partnership organisations involved in the project”. .......Back
